Flood
Flood Insurance
Flood damage is not covered by a standard homeowners policy. It is a separate policy, written either through the National Flood Insurance Program or with a private flood carrier. We quote both routes and explain the differences in limits, waiting periods, and cost so you can pick the one that fits your property.

Worth knowing in Louisiana
Most flood policies have a 30-day waiting period before coverage takes effect, so the time to buy is well before a storm forms. Lenders commonly require flood coverage for properties in mapped flood zones, and properties outside those zones can still flood.

What flood insurance can include
Each item below is a distinct coverage with its own limit and, in some cases, deductible. Whether a specific loss is covered always depends on the terms of the policy you purchase.
- 01Building coverage
- Covers the structure and its systems, such as foundation elements, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and built-in appliances, against flood damage up to the policy limit.
- 02Contents coverage
- Covers your belongings against flood damage. Under NFIP policies, building and contents are separate coverages with separate limits and deductibles.
- 03NFIP policies
- Federal flood coverage written through the National Flood Insurance Program, with set maximum limits for residential buildings and contents.
- 04Private flood policies
- Coverage from private carriers that can offer different limits, deductibles, and terms than the NFIP. Availability depends on the property and carrier appetite.

We compare coverage across multiple carriers and markets, then explain the differences in plain language. Availability depends on your location, property, history, and the coverage you need.
